Jenny and Peter met in 1987 when Peter was farming red deer in the Oxfordshire
countryside. Jenny joined the team, becoming a farmer’s wife
in 1988 and fully immersed herself in the country life.
With a training
in the arts and a background in the theatre, Jenny has always had
an eye for colour and a sense of style. As a student she was always
making her own stylish clothes, having been taught the basics by
her Grandmother.
In 1991 the farming took a steep downhill direction
leaving Peter and Jenny in need of a new career.
A waistcoat Jenny
made for herself received such admiration and requests for something
similar that Jenny decided to go into production.
Waistcoats were
soon followed by jackets and in early 1991 the business was born,
with Jenny looking after the design and manufacture and Peter in
charge of the marketing and business side.
As time went by they employed a number of
talented outworkers to help with the production, Jenny concentrating
on the design and the sales. In 1992 they had their first child,
and continued to exhibit at the shows with their son Bertie. However,
in 1994 a second child, Charlie made going to the shows very difficult
as they could only fit three people in the front of their van! To
get around this, they opened their shop in Stow-on-the-Wold in October
1994.
It was a slow start, but eventually word
got around and people started to travel great distances to see Jenny
who was building a reputation for style and glamour with a first
class service.
Many of Jenny ’s clients are mother’s
of brides and grooms who over the years have had a number of children
married and most of them come back each time for something different.
It is a very personal business deciding what is going to suit you
on your wedding day and Jenny spends a lot of time with clients looking
at fabrics, colours and styles.
Twenty years on after opening the shop
Jenny has become a
well respected designer with clients from the
whole world.
